DairyNZ is committed to engaging and partnering with Māori
We recognise the importance of tangata whenua, the significant contribution of Māori to our levy payer base and the dairy sector workforce, and our shared aspirations of sustainability and longevity for the industry.
Guided by our Māori Engagement and Partnership Strategy, we continue to develop and strengthen our relationships with Māori through a values-based lens and tikanga-driven approach.
We are continuing some of the great mahi already underway in our community, including sponsorship of the Ahuwhenua Trophy, offering tailored services to our Māori farmers and levy payers, working with iwi to enhance the well-being of catchments, and supporting capability building through our Māori internship programme.
Through kotahitanga (unity) and working collectively, we can achieve better outcomes for our whenua (land), for the taiao (environment) and ngā uri whakaheke (next generations).
We have a growing team of dedicated Māori specialists which currently consists of our Kaiārahi Ahuwhenua - Māori Agribusiness Specialist, and Kaiakiaki - Māori Development Advisor. We are increasing the cultural capability across the organisation.

Early Response Service
If concerns are raised about the wellbeing of livestock, our team is here to help. We’ll visit the farm to check the welfare of the animals, and the wellbeing of the farmer. If there is a genuine issue, we’ll support the farmer with an action plan and follow up visits. All calls to our freephone are confidential, 0800 4 324 7969.
