Māori internships and opportunities
2 min read
Let your passion for te ao Māori and te taiao thrive at DairyNZ. Gain valuable industry insight, practical experience and tuakana/teina mentoring during your time with us. At DairyNZ, we seek to incorporate kaupapa Māori and mātauranga Māori in our science and research to achieve better outcomes for farmers, Māori and the dairy sector. We’re dedicated to supporting the next generation of aspiring Māori researchers and scientists.
DairyNZ offers summer internships for Māori tertiary students as part of our internship programme which has been running for the past five years. These internships are usually science-based and located at either our Lincoln or Hamilton office.
An exciting part of our internship programme is our annual wānanga which we hold in partnership with AgResearch. Our wānanga is hosted by Ngāti Koroki Kahukura and provides opportunities for our tauira to connect with local kaitiaki and learn about key iwi environmental initiatives.
DairyNZ is committed to seeing you succeed, and we do that by providing support post-internship with your study and/or career aspirations.
Our opportunities are not just limited to science internships, and we’re keen to hear from anyone with a passion for dairy.
Our science internships are advertised from August each year on DairyNZ vacancies.
We’re also keen to hear to from anyone with a background in agriculture, environmental or social sciences, or in Te Reo/Te Ao Māori studies.
Please contact our Kaiakiaki – Māori Development Advisor at any time to kōrero further - Sara.Tairi@dairynz.co.nz.
These opportunities are open to people of all ages. Our internships are usually suited to current tertiary students. We may be able to offer post-graduate opportunities or employment opportunities, so we’re keen to hear from graduates and anyone with relevant life and work experience.
Please email our Kaiakiaki-Māori Development Advisor, Sara.Tairi@dairynz.co.nz who will be more than happy to discuss your suitability.
Yes these are paid positions. Our interns are paid for a 40-hour week over summer for a duration of 10-12 weeks.
This will depend on the position. Our main offices are in Hamilton and Lincoln, and we also have a number of regional offices throughout the motu. Please get in touch to discuss further.
